What's New
National PA Week
Posted on: 10/06/2008
To recognize the contributions of PAs locally and nationally in providing quality patient care, the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) celebrates PAs during National PA Week, held October 6-12, 2009. The week serves to celebrate the significant impact PAs have made and continue to make in health care, expand awareness of the profession and salute the outstanding growth of the PA profession.
PAs are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with supervising physicians. Most PAs have 2-3 years of medical training through a graduate level program in addition to a bachelor’s degree. At The Virginia Spine Institute all of our PA’s are required to complete our residency and fellowship programs. Our PAs receive additional training with our physicians through weekly educational conferences and the daily practice of medicine.
At The Virginia Spine Institute our PAs:
• see patients in the office
• prescribe medication
• perform injections
• assist in surgery
• make rounds at the hospital
“We always honor and respect the tireless efforts of our PAs, but especially so during PA Week,” says Dr. Brian R. Subach, spine surgeon at The Virginia Spine Institute. “PAs across the country do an extraordinary job of helping countless patients every day. This week in particular, we want to spread the word that PAs are integral to a healthy America.”
