Michael W. Hasz, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Prior to joining the Virginia Spine Institute in 1995, Dr. Hasz served as a Major in the United States Air Force. During his tenure, he was Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of Spinal Surgery at the Andrews Air Force Base/Malcolm Grow Medical Center. He currently holds an appointment as Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services Health Science University in Bethesda, Maryland. Most recently, Dr. Hasz has been recognized among the Top Doctors by U.S.News & World Report.

As a pioneer in spinal health care, Dr. Hasz has been using minimally invasive techniques for over a decade in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan region. His practice also includes the use of endoscopy and laser techniques as indicated. He is also a proven leader in Artificial Disc technologies.  

His dedication to advancing spinal health care has him actively participating in clinical trials and studies. He was one of the first in the region to use the MetRx MIS system for lumbar and cervical surgery; the DLIF/XLIF approach for spinal fusion and deformity work; the Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty procedures for spinal fractures; the IDET procedure for low back pain; and the ProDisc artificial disc.

Traveling the world, from Europe to the Australia, Dr. Hasz has taught fellow physicians modern techniques of spinal health care. In addition to advancing spinal health care, Dr. Hasz has special interest and instructs on human performance, nutrition and exercise.

Dr. Hasz also a pilot, holding commercial and instrument ratings for airplanes and floatplanes, he has built his own airplane, and he recently added his helicopter rating to his flying resume.
