Pain Management

Dr. Nguyen joined the Virginia Spine Institute in 2005 to add his talent and expertise in comprehensive and interventional pain management. He is the director of the Pain Management Center of Virginia which is a state of the art center certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAHC). His practice is dedicated to the comprehensive care and treatment of acute and chronic spine related pain using a multidisciplinary approach to offer the best options for pain relief and functional improvement.

In addition to medical management, Dr. Nguyen specializes in advanced minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment modalities for treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes. Most procedures are done at the Pain Management Center of Virginia using fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance for precise localization and added safety. Examples of our state-of-the-art technology include radio frequency and spinal cord stimulation.

Dr. Nguyen has practiced pain medicine since finishing his pain fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1999. He was the founder and medical director of the Comprehensive Pain Management Center in Newport News, VA from 1999-2002. He went on to pursue further training at the Medical College of Georgia and University of California in Los Angeles to pursue his interests in family/sports medicine and acupuncture, respectively. Dr. Nguyen is a diplomat of the American Board of Pain Medicine and American Academy of Family Practice. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the International Spine Intervention Society and the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Nguyen is involved in several national multicenter studies for the treatment of chronic back pain.
