Pain Management Specialist
Dr. Nguyen joined the Virginia Spine Institute in 2005 to strengthen the comprehensive and interventional pain management practice. As the director of the Pain Management Center of Virginia, a state-of-the-art outpatient medical center, he has been recognized among the 70 Best Pain Management Physicians in America. As a fellowship trained pain specialist, his philosophy is to utilize the most innovative techniques to deliver quality pain management. With his dedication to the practice of medicine, he is on the forefront of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. He is dedicated to the comprehensive care and treatment of acute and chronic spine related pain using a multidisciplinary approach to offer the best options for pain relief and functional improvement to restore his patients' active lifestyles.
The majority of his procedures are conveniently performed at the Pain Management Center of Virginia using fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance for precise localization and added safety. Examples of the state-of-the-art technology include Radio- Frequency Ablation (RFA), Spinal Cord Stimulation and Platalet- Rich Plasma (PRP) injections.
Dr. Nguyen has practiced pain medicine since finishing his pain fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1999. He was the founder and medical director of the Comprehensive Pain Management Center in Newport News, VA from 1999-2002. He went on to pursue further training at the Medical College of Georgia and University of California in Los Angeles to pursue his interests in family/sports medicine and acupuncture, respectively. Dr. Nguyen is a diplomat of the American Board of Pain Medicine and American Academy of Family Practice. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the International Spine Intervention Society and the American Academy of Family Practice. He currently holds appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen is involved in several national multicenter studies for the treatment of chronic back pain.
