TRUE STORY: AFTER YEARS OF FAILED THERAPY, SUSAN UNDERWENT SPINAL FUSION SURGERY TO PURSUE HER DREAM OF HIKING THE GREAT WALL
I suffered from lower back pain, which felt like the tip of a knife stuck in my back. After several years of therapy, in 1998, I had a spinal fusion surgery performed by Dr. Schuler. Prior to that, I felt that a normal life was not to be and my dreams of traveling were gone. I wanted to hike the Great Wall, my post-surgery goal, which I achieved two years later.
Since then, I have had the good fortune and the physical ability to: hike the Inca Trail in Machu Picchu; jump with the Masai in Tanzania; ride the camels at the Great Pyramids; endure the bumps of a safari ride in Botswana’s Okavango and a jeep ride with the Bedouins in Wadi Rum; hike into Jordan’s Petra; walk to the Twyfelfontein rock engravings in Namibia; and climb to Potala Palace in Llasa, Tibet.
The good people at Virginia Spine Institute had my back and gave me my life back. And, yes, I walk and stretch daily, a small price to pay to be able to work and play.
Thank you to my team!
