Dr. Li is a board-certified neurologist who sub-specializes in pain medicine, with a focus on low back pain, neck pain, and headache disorders. His background encompasses a variety of neurologic conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, stroke, and movement disorders. What sets Dr. Li apart is his patient-care philosophy to treat each patient’s condition as a team and incorporate shared decision-making with the patient.

His experience spans from the largest integrated health care system in the United States to multiple university hospital systems including the University of Virginia and the University of Wisconsin. He was involved in essential research at Mayo Clinic’s Department of Neurology.

Pursuing a career in neurology stemmed from Dr. Li’s belief that this specialty relies heavily on getting to know the patient to develop an accurate diagnosis and custom treatment plan that will improve their life. He builds therapeutic partnerships with his patients to determine the most effective course of treatment unique to each patient’s condition.

Dr. Li is expanding treatment options for neurological patients with chronic pain and headaches. With a multifaceted approach to treating pain and neurologic disorders, it allows for patients to not only benefit from their medical treatments but also feel empowered to take control and manage their condition.

With an extensive knowledge of the central and peripheral nervous system, Dr. Li provides patients with holistic care. His multidisciplinary approach to treating pain, coupled with his ability to perform image-guided procedures, is something that is not commonly offered by other neurologists. He performs Electromyography (EMG), nonsurgical image-guided injections, and radio-frequency nerve ablations in our state-of-the-art facility.

When Dr. Li meets with a patient for an initial evaluation, he believes that the most important part of the meeting is listening to the patient about their condition, where it affects them, and how it affects their life. Physical examination, laboratory investigations, and imaging studies certainly can help narrow things down, but intently listening to the patient is crucial to developing an effective treatment plan.

The most rewarding aspect of Dr. Li’s role is that he can help change people’s lives for the better.
