VSI Surgeons Featured At Reston Hospital Center’s ‘Robot Night’

Authored by: VSI

Virginia Spine Institute surgeons Dr. Schuler and Dr. Haines were recently featured as key presenters at Reston Hospital Center‘s ‘Robot Night’. This event allows community members to learn more about robotic systems utilized in minimally invasive spine surgery and interact with specialists to gain a deeper understanding of how robot-guided spine surgery benefits patients.

Robot-guided spine surgery is an innovative tool that allows surgeons to plan and create a blueprint for each surgical case before setting foot in an operating room. Complementing the surgeon’s skillset, the robotic system guides the surgeon with a computerized 3D planning system that pin-points each next step for increased surgical precision. Virginia Spine Institute was the first practice in the Mid-Atlantic region to perform robot-guided spine surgery and was involved in the first multi-center prospective study to research and determine long-term benefits for patients.

This study revealed:

  • Five-fold reduction in surgical complications
  • Seven-fold reduction in revision surgeries compared to freehand-based minimally invasive lumbar fusion surgeries

Virginia Spine Institute is proud to partner with Reston Hospital Center’s robotic program.
