Good balance and mobility are the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Impaired postural stability can limit the extent and type of physical activities you pursue as you age. Improving and maintaining your balance can lessen your chances of falling. Regular exercise can lower the risk of frailty and dementia that would otherwise end your independence. Our balance and mobility classes can improve your postural stability and increase your self-confidence. Our classes are for anyone who is experiencing balance problems – older adults, patients with vestibular problems, patients with multiple sclerosis, or post-polio syndrome. Exercises are systematically progressed from a very low level to a high level of balance challenge and from seated, to standing, to moving environments. The difficulty of an exercise is increased or decreased by manipulating task and/or environmental demands (eyes closed, low lighting, etc.).

You will participate in five groupings of exercise types to ensure a targeted approach toward enhancing your balance and mobility by:
  • Helping you to better control your center of gravity
  • Providing you with balance challenges in stable and unstable conditions
  • Improving the way you walk
  • Increasing your strength and flexibility
  • Enhancing your proactive and reactive postural strategies
