MEET & GREET: VSI’s Newest Physician, Dr. Colin Haines

Our roving reporter was able to catch up with Virginia Spine Institute’s newest member of the medical team, Dr. Colin Haines, M.D. He’s had a full week of on-boarding with our ‘spiney’s including Hollywood-themed fanfare and even custom-made cookies to look like him!  Please join us in welcoming him to our award-winning practice!

Roving Reporter: When you were five, what did you want to be when you “grew up”? 

Dr. Haines: I remember watching the World Cup when I was younger and thinking that I wanted to be a professional soccer player. And then reality set in…

Roving Reporter: What are you most looking forward to now that you are officially a ‘spiney’ {aka VSI team member}?

Dr. Haines: I’m looking forward to working in a world-class spine care system.

Roving Reporter: What was the most memorable experience during your education and/or fellowship training to become a physician?

Dr. Haines: The first time that I held an instrument to operate on a real patient. The concept of the profound impact that I could have on someone’s life as a surgeon really hit me at that moment.

Roving Reporter: If you had an unexpected hour of free time and could do anything, what would it be?

Dr. Haines: Play with my newborn daughter!

Roving Reporter: Share with us your favorite quote or motto.

Dr. Haines: My fantasy football skills

Dr. Haines: George Washington, Leonardo DaVinci, and Lebron James

Dr. Haines: Strawberry and banana smoothie {yum!}

Dr. Haines: Cookies and Cream — my go-to flavor!

Dr. Haines: House of Cards and Gladiator

Dr. Haines: Determined, caring, and funny

Roving Reporter: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Dr. Haines: To never accept the status quo. Always work to improve yourself.
