How to avoid the ‘Quarantine Fifteen’: Tips for working out this winter

As seen on WDVM:

Dr. Haines recently spoke to WDVM on how quarantine has caused us all to abandon our usual exercise routines. When you add cold weather and shorter days making it even harder to get outdoors, it can be tempting to become a couch potato.

However, as Dr. Haines explained, remaining inactive can cause health problems such as weight gain and muscle stiffness. So how can you beat the quarantine blues and stay active? Get creative. Use household items like books and bottles as workout equipment, or fill a backpack and use that as resistance.

Another great resource? Online exercise classes. There are a variety of options for your specific preference, so explore and find what works for you. Get the whole family involved in a Zumba class or take some time alone to meditate and do yoga.

Exercise can also help alleviate back and neck pain that have been exacerbated from the past few months working from home. Keeping a regular workout routine will work wonders for your overall health.
