Vestibular Conditions

Vestibular Disorders: Quick Facts

  • Vestibular disorders are a group of conditions that affect the vestibular system—the structures in the inner ear and brain that help control balance, coordination, and spatial orientation.
  • Common symptoms include dizziness, vertigo (a spinning sensation), imbalance, unsteadiness, nausea, blurred vision, motion sensitivity, and difficulty walking or maintaining balance.
  • Vestibular disorders can result from inner ear infections, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis, Ménière’s disease, head injuries, migraines, or neurological conditions affecting the brain.
  • Because dizziness and balance problems can have many causes, including neurological, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal conditions, a thorough evaluation is essential to determine the underlying source of symptoms.
  • Diagnosis typically includes a medical history, physical examination, balance and eye movement testing, hearing evaluation, and, when appropriate, imaging studies or vestibular function tests.
  • Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include vestibular rehabilitation therapy, physical therapy, medications, repositioning maneuvers (such as the Epley maneuver for BPPV), or other condition-specific treatments.

Our team of specialists are experts in vestibular conditions and have decades of experience treating these conditions. After completing a thorough biomechanical evaluation, your specialist will create an individualized plan of care to address your specific needs regarding the underlying cause of your symptoms. Whatever your symptoms, we’ll help you recover.
